One of the most accomplished players in T20 cricket history, Dan Christian, has announced he will retire after the current BBL season with the Sydney Sixers.
Christian, 39, has currently played 405 T20 matches, scoring 5809 runs and claiming 280 wickets. He will play in at least four more games, contingent on selection, and the Sixers, who finished in the top two of the regular season standings, are assured two chances to play in the BBL final.

Christian, who will turn 40 in a few months, told his Sydney Sixers colleagues at practice on Friday that he would retire after the finals in his quest for a ninth franchise cricket championship.
“Hopefully we can go all the way again this season, but regardless it’s been a great run,” Christian posted on social media.

Christian not only had a successful Twenty20 career in franchise cricket, but he also participated in 20 ODIs and 23 Twenty20 matches for Australia.
In 2021, he made a rare return to national service by travelling to the West Indies and Bangladesh, however, he was not selected for the T20 World Cup squad.
The Indigenous player, who had his career-best stats of 5-31 against Sri Lanka in 2012, is one of only six Australians to have taken a one-day hat trick.
With a record 133 games under his belt, Christian is still the only player in the BBL to have scored more than 2000 runs and taken more than 90 wickets.
As the man-of-the-match in the title match, he was also the highlight of the Melbourne Renegades’ lone championship triumph in 2019.
