Batting great Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at the BCCI selectors for ignoring Sarfaraz Khan repeatedly in the Test side. Sarfaraz has been scoring consistently well in domestic cricket for the last couple of years but has not been able to get a Test call-up. The Mumbaikar has slammed 12 centuries including one triple and two double-hundreds since 2020. In the last three domestic seasons, he has amassed 2441 runs but the selectors have not picked him once in the side.

There was hardly ever any doubt over Joe Root’s style of batting but if there was a chink in his armour it was certainly his performance in T20 cricket. Well, the former England skipper has now addressed the criticism in a convincing fashion. Root exhibited a blistering performance during an International League T20 (ILT20) fixture on Thursday. Root played some exquisite shots all over the park at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Root, while playing for Dubai Capitals, smashed three boundaries against Gulf Giants. However, Root’s quickfire knock came to a premature end after he was dismissed for 20. His power-packed batting ultimately went in vain as Dubai Capitals had to concede a crushing 101-run defeat.
After a thrilling victory in the first ODI against New Zealand, Team India arrived in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur for the second encounter. The team was received with much enthusiasm by fans. You admired Robin Uthappa a lot and he will be a part of the squad with you. What’s the feeling?
I have been watching him for years now and the consistency he has had for all these years, it’s amazing to be around him. It’s a great exposure that we are getting. Moreover, you get to learn a lot by just watching them in the nets and the practice sessions. It’s a great opportunity for us. He is very humble and welcoming and open to questions. He says, “seekhna hai to pucho na. Kyun nahi puchre (Ask questions if you wanna learn)”. That’s the kind of nature which is very inspiring. I would love to replicate this. If you can help someone in a small manner, that’s simply great.

“He is not staying off the field when he is scoring hundreds, he is back on the field again. All that tells you that the man is fit for cricket. If you are looking for only slim and trim guys, then you might as well go to a fashion show and pick some models and then give them a bat and ball in their hand and then include them. You have cricketers in all shapes and sizes. Don’t go by the size, but go by the runs and the wickets,” Gavaskar added.
Former Australian cricketer David Hussey believes Adam Zampa’s omission from the Border-Gavaskar series in India could have dealt a body blow to the off-spinner’s Test aspirations.
Hussey, 45, a white-ball specialist, felt strongly about Zampa’s exclusion after being assured of a Test berth in the India tour.
“He (Zampa) played a red-ball Shield game for New South Wales against Victoria at the Junction Oval just prior to the Big Bash starting and he bowled particularly well,” Hussey told SEN Radio on Thursday.
“I think all reports from (head coach Andrew) McDonald and (chairman of selectors) George Bailey (was that) he (Zampa) was going to be going to India.” The former Australia cricketer added that had Zampa been selected, he would have been successful in India.
India beat South Africa by 27 runs in the Tri-Series opener on Thursday in East London. South Africa had won the toss and opted to bowl first, and the decision proved right as the visitors were reduced to 69/5. Only Yastika Bhatia managed to score 35. Nevertheless, Deepti Sharma (33 off 23) and Amanjot Kaur (41 off 30) shared a 76 run stand for the sixth wicket to bail India out as they managed to post a total of 147/6. In reply, the Proteas women lost their openers early as they were reduced to 27/2. They managed to dig themselves out of hole but only to lose timely wickets, eventually ending up falling short by 27 runs.
